Simple and Complicated

In this episode of Morning Motivation, Michael explores the paradox of simplicity and complexity. Many teachers and gurus say, “You’re overcomplicating it,” or try to prescribe their version of the truth. But your journey, your gifts, and your calling are unique.

The principles may be simple, but the way you apply them will be different. Don’t let anyone convince you that you’re wrong for not fitting into their mold. Instead, learn to filter: take what resonates, leave the rest, and trust your own greatness to know the difference.

The answer is usually simple and complicated. Oh, that's helpful, right? A lot of things come down to some fairly simple concepts. That's pretty much what I talk about here at Morning Motivation. And yet, it doesn't always apply exactly to your life and your structure and your philosophy and your way of doing things. Oftentimes, someone trying to teach you something will say, you're overcomplicating it, you're overthinking it, you're thinking too hard, which usually means their ego is tied up in it, and they want you to do it their way and not argue because they believe they are right and you are wrong, and they may be right for themselves and maybe for many people they teach, but that doesn't mean they're right for you. You are unique. If you weren't, there'd be no point to listening to this and becoming great and doing all those things God needs you to do because no one would care, because there'd be someone else doing what you do, but you are unique. You have a unique set of skills and talents and gifts, and you are going to interact with the world differently than others. So the basic principle they teach may well be very valid, but the execution of that may be very different. So the lesson here is take the concepts, take the ideas that you are taught, but understand that your application may be unique. Their universal principles they teach may not universally apply to you, and sometimes they're not universal at all. Sometimes we teach these didactic prescriptive concepts because they sound good. It feels good to say them. Never do this. Always do this. This is the rule. It's simple. Yeah, that sounds great. Makes me sound really smart and really strong and like a guru. And yet it's the least useful way to teach. So don't let anyone bully you into thinking that you're not getting it, when in fact you are getting it, it's just not right for you. Take what works. Bless the rest. Your greatness knows the difference.
